Domaine de Beaurenard Description

Parcels of old vines 60-100 years in age, planted in soils of great character and complexity, provide the grapes for this wine. They are picked when fully mature and meticulously sorted by hand to further enhance concentration. Yields are very low: 15-20 hectoliters/hectare. These old parcels, in which different varieties are planted together, embody the symphony of 13 varieties, though Grenache predominates. The Boisrenard undergoes lengthy vatting and is aged in an entirely traditional way: no filtration or fining, then 18 months' ageing in oak barrels, bottling, and a spell of rest in our underground cellars.

Wine Spectator: 97 Points

Contains some exotic fruit?blueberry paste, boysenberry and raspberry confiture, and pastis-soaked currant?but it's a brick house too, with Turkish coffee, bittersweet chocolate and lots of singed wood spice notes fanning out on the finish. A great spine allows the elements to echo through the finish without faltering. Best from 2015 through 2030. 750 cases made.

Stephen Tanzer: 91 Points

Bright ruby. Exotic aromas of candied cherry, raspberry and peppery spices, with slow-building florality. Silky, sweet and expressive, offering red fruit preserve and lavender pastille flavors and a hint of smokiness. Lush and pliant, finishing with persistent sweetness and sneaky tannins.

Wine Enthusiast: 91 Points

Garrigue and cherries on the nose, with similar flavors and a touch of chocolate that comes through on the palate. This is full bodied and firmly tannic, but should evolve relatively quickly. Drink 2015-2023.
